CONTRIBUTION OF FAMILY STRUCTURE TO STUDENTS’ ENTREPRENEURIAL INTEREST IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN RIVERS STATE

The study investigated the contribution of family structure to the entrepreneurial interest of students in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. Four hypotheses were tested in the study. The study adopted correlation survey design. Snowballing as well as random sampling technique was used to select 150 students in public tertiary institutions in the State as sample for the study from the population of all the students in these institutions. The instruments used for data collection was a questionnaire titled “Family Structure Questionnaire” (FSQ) and “Students Entrepreneurial Interest Questionnaire” (SEIQ) which were validated by two experts and the reliability index estimated was 0.87 and 0.89. The instrument was administered on the spot and retrieved by the researcher and three research assistants. p ˂ 0.233), there was no significant relationship between parental income, family type, family size and parental education on the entrepreneurial interest of students in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. It was recommended based on the findings of the study that an all-inclusive entrepreneurial curriculum should be developed and implemented for students in these schools.
